Triangle Project - Working in Partnership to Tackle Inequalities

The Triangle Project is one of seven research projects funded by the National Assembly for Wales under its Sustainable Health Action Research Programme (SHARP).

It will help three Local Health Alliances (Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil and Powys) develop a partnership approach with local communities to reduce health inequalities in their areas over the next five years.

It will assist local communities to develop their own strategies to tackle health and well being issues in their areas.

The knowledge and experience gained through the research will be shared with the local communities and alliances to help them achieve their goals.

Aims of the SHARP Programme

The SHARP programme is part of the National Assembly's "Better Health Better Wales" initiative.

Projects are research driven and involve researchers, community members, health care practitioners and others working together to identify and achieve objectives.

A Distinctive Approach to Research

This is an "action research" project, which is an approach that seeks to provide practitioners, organisations and communities with the tools to address the issues that they identify and want to resolve.

Local researchers will act with local people as equal partners to direct the research process.

Triangle Project - Who's Involved?

Welsh Assembly GovernmentThe project is led by Cardiff University's School of Social Science. Employed on the project are local researchers who work in the communities and a research co-ordinator who acts as a link between the different localities and the university.

The Project is also supported by Neil Caldwell Associates a consultancy with experience in planning, management and communications.

The project will be guided by local steering groups, which will consist of representatives from the local community, local health alliances, Neil Caldwell Associates and the university.
